In Upleta, spiritual lectures of Swami Jitatmanandaji Maharaj, the then President of Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot, and Swami Nikhileswaranandaji, the then Editor of Shri Ramakrishna Jyot (a monthly magazine published from Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama Rajkot), were arranged which was attended by many local devotees. This ensued in a detailed discussion about starting a centre at Upleta. As the outcome, this Centre was registered on Holy Christmas Day, 25 December, 1994.
Satsang, Library, Prayers etc. were arranged at the residence of a devotee before the formation of Trust. After vigorous efforts, the permission for Construction of Prayer Hall on Public plot was received. The Opening Ceremony of Prayer Hall was performed in August, 2005 by Swami Satyarupanandaji Maharaj, the then President of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Ashrama, Raipur, in the presence of Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission, Limbdi, President of Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot, and several other monks. Since Thakur has already showered blessings on this Centre, during the celebration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, a project named ‘Sarada Palli Vikas Prakalp’ was started here under the guidance of Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot.
A land measuring 3 acres was acquired on Kolki Road, with the help of donors and under the guidance of Senior monks of Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama, Rajkot. The Bhumipoojan of Prayer Hall and new building consisting of 10 rooms, was performed by Swami Vaghishanandaji Maharaj, the then Vice-President of Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission. After completion of construction, consecration ceremony of this new complex was performed by Revered Swami Suhitanandaji Maharaj, the then General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission, in the presence of several monks and the centre was shifted to new complex. At present, this centre has got a free Library and a huge garden spread in 3 acres of land.
Our activities
The various vocational training courses (viz. stiching, embroidery skill, Kolaaz, painting, Jardoshikhatlibharatkaam, Mehndi, computer operating, etc.) for ladies, under ‘Sarada Palli Vikas Prakalp’, previously running from 13 January, 2006, in rented building, were then shifted to the new building. From the opening day till November 2018, total 4,500 ladies were trained in this centre. The ladies trained here are earning from Rs. 3,000/- to Rs. 30,000/- per month by working from their homes.
In addition to the above activities, an Eye Camp on first Sunday of every month is organised in which nearly 30 to 32 Cataract operations are performed. A Balak Sangh with 30 to 40 boys conducts its activities at Old temple. From 2006, Ration-Kits each worth Rs.500/- are given to 20 old & handicapped women per month.
During the month of May, 2001, this Centre sold exhibition kits prepared by Mysore Ashram, worth Rs. 85,000/- in various exhibitions organised nearby.
The activities of this centre are progressing very fast with the help and guidance of Swamis and donations by kind and pious donors. Daily pooja in morning, Bhog prasad at noon, and Evening Prayers are conducted regularly at both the places i.e. at old Prarthana Mandir in village and new building on Kolki road. Also, Religious discourses and Bhajans are organised occasionally. The Swamijis of Ramakrishna Math and Matajis of Sarada Math are visiting this centre and giving lectures when they are going from Rajkot to Porbandar or vice versa. On Sundays, the centre is crowded by visitors, particularly by children, for garden and swings.
The opening ceremony of ‘Bhagini Nivedita Vidya Mandir’ was performed on 27.7.2016 by the President Mataji of Sarada Math, Valsad. The centre has got a dining hall which can accommodate 100-150 persons at a time.
Now this centre conducts Coaching classes providing tuition facility for 125 girl students of Std. 4 to 10 with bus facility too.
Centre has also started a Selling shop managed by the ladies, for items manufactured during their training period. This Shop sells handicraft items worth Rs. 1 lakh in a year. Ladies from 10 to 15 nearby villages are taking training here. With kind blessings of Thakur, Ma and Swamiji, this centre is progressing well, and has become a Jewel of Upleta.
