The devotees of Sri Ramakrishna in Surat set up a Pathchakra in 1995. The weekly meeting of Pathchakra used to take place in residence of members in turn. Sri Raojibhai, a devotee owned a hall at the basement of Vivekananda Apartment at 49, Narmad Nagar, Athwalines. He offered it to the members to use it for their activities. In 2001, it was decided to establish a Centre to propagate message of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Ma Sarada devi and Swami Vivekananda. The Centre named ‘Sri Ramakrishna Vivekananda Aradhana Kendra’ was formally established on 7th February 2002 and was registered under Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. The Kendra has subsequently become member of the Gujarat Ramakrishna Vivekananda Bhav Prachar Parishad as advised by Ramakrishna Math and Mission, Belur Math, after going through due process. Kendra is also registered with Income Tax Authority and donations to the Kendra are exempted from Income Tax under section 80G of Income Tax Act 1961.
Our present activities
At present there is library and book-sales counter at the Kendra. The devotees meet on every Sunday evening for spiritual discourse followed by arati, bhajans etc. In addition, Kendra organizes free Coaching classes for the students in slum area. Note-books and uniforms are distributed among needy poor students of schools in Surat city and rural areas nearby. Kendra celebrates birth anniversaries of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Ma Sarada devi and Swami Vivekananda annually and organises inter-school declamation and essay writing competition for the students of Surat & nearby. Monks from different centres of Ramakrishna Order and Matajis from Sarada Math, Valsad visit the Kendra frequently, providing occasion for their valuable guidance and spiritual discourse.
In addition to above regular activities Kendra has accomplished the following tasks successfully:
1. Educational Activities: Books worth Rs. 18,258/- from stock were donated to 10 primary schools and Financial help of Rs. 17,000/- was sent to Primary School of R. K. Mission Chennai
2. Social Work: During the year 2017-18 Kendra Contributed Rs. 50,000/- to Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Vadodara for Flood-relief work.
