Shri Nagarbhai Lad, a teacher of mathematics, deeply influenced by the patriotic monk Swami Vivekananda, who propagated ‘looking upon work as worship’, had stopped his private tuition classes paving the way for free tuition classes for needy students. This adventure of his later christened as ‘Nivedita Coaching Classes’. On some eventful evening in 1997, Shri Nagardasbhai came forward with a proposal of distribution of surplus food to hungry people, during causal chant with his wife Smt. Pushpaben who happily welcomed it, and both of them started the distribution daily at Kim railway station. This continued for few days, and the experience resulted in the thought ‘It is not proper to distribute food to the hungry people, only when it is surplus’; and daily cooking of some vegetable-rice [khichdi] for the purpose became their routine. In the same year in celebration of birth anniversary [tithi-puja] of Holy Mother Sri Sarada devi, this facility was extended to the patients of Sadhana Hospital, Kim, and they served there every evening. These adventures of them received applaud from common people, social leaders & serving institutions. Trustees of Sadhana Hospital offered a room and ‘Annakshetra for patients’ was formally inaugurated by Swami Sachchidanandaji (of Dantali) on 16-2-2000. This soon became nucleus for initiating ‘Ramakrishna Vivekananda Seva Kendra, Kim’. Kendra’s initial project ‘Annakshetra for patients’ formally became ‘Shri Shri Ma Sarada Prasad Kshetra’ and started serving patients from all hospitals in Kim in 2007 with the blessings from Pravrajika Devprana Mataji, President, Sri Sarada Math, Mogarawadi, Valsad. Till the date it has served more than 5,00,000 patients.

Year 2001 witnessed organisation of a homeopathy dispensary for poor patients, which was dedicated to public service by Swami Nikhileswaranandaji, then Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Memorial, Porbandar. On the occasion he presented few books, with which a small library came into existence, and it took shape of ‘Nachiketa Pubic Library, Kim’ in 2008. At present it serves with more than 8,000 books, 40 magazines and 9 newspapers everyday from 9.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. In 2002, the Ayurveda dispensary started serving needy patients. With the help of Vadodara branch of Vivekananda Kendra & Patanjali Yoga Kendra, Surat, Yoga classes were started in 2004, and as of today, several people are benefitted by these daily yoga classes.

As understood by Sri Nathaji Lad family & the devotees of Kim, motive of Seva Kendra remains the ideal of Swami Vivekananda ‘Serving poor & needy as worship of Lord Shiva for the self-liberation and beneficial to the world’ and propagate the unity among all religions. With vow to remain aloof from the politics, they are dedicated in spreading Ramakrishna-Vivekananda ideals with determination to handover Seva Kendra to Ramakrishna Order, as and when it becomes feasible.

On 6 July, 2003, Sri Nathaji Lad attended half yearly conference of ‘Gujarat Ramakrishna Vivekananda Bhava Prachar Parishad’ held at Ahmedabad; and ‘Ramakrishna Vivekananda Seva Kendra, Kim’ became the member of ‘Gujarat Ramakrishna Vivekananda Bhava Prachar Parishad’.

Health care services were initiated at Kosamba with the help of local group of dedicated ladies and seniors, in 2004. It was followed by Acupressure therapy centres at Kim & Kosamba in 2011.

Then, Kendra was in need of its own accommodation for better services. Understanding the situation Sri Nathaji Lad himself came forward with donation of Rs. 30,11,111/- (which he received as the sale proceed of his family land); and Kendra has successfully collected fund of Rs. 1,30,00,000/- . It made possible to construct a building on 6,300 sq. ft. plot at Kailash Residency Tapovan, Vidyadham Road, Kim; for the use of Kendra. This building was declared open for public service, by Swami Prabhanandaji Maharaj, Vice-president of Ramakrishna Order on the Holy Tithi Puja of Late Swami Brahmanandaji Maharaj, first president of Ramakrishna Order, on 29-1-2017.
