Received your email of 22 December 2018. I am glad to learn that you are celebrating the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to Gujarat and intend to publish a commemorative souvenir.
Swamiji seemed to share a special bond with Gujarat as we find in his close associations with the prominent people of Gujarat as well with the heads of the princely states of Limbdi, Bhavanagar, Bhuj and Vadodara. His intimate friendship with Dewan Haridas Viharidas Desai of Junagadh as well as Shankar Pandurang of Porbandar has been duly noted in his biography. Swamiji’s wanderings in the historic and pilgrim centres of the state played a part in completing his vision of India as a whole. It was at Dwaraka that Swamiji envisioned a glorious future of India. It was at Porbandar that Swamiji could sense his mission and the power within him to revolutionize the world. It is, therefore, befitting that his visit to Gujarat should be observed with proper solemnity.
